The Rock We Can Count On

Psalm 62:1,2 “Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.”

We live in an age where we have grown accustomed to getting what we want fast. There is fast food, instant messaging and email, quick cash from ATMs, overnight shipping, etc.

In the above Scripture verse, we see that David learned to “wait” on the Lord. This is something that can be difficult to learn, and even then there is always a temptation to move ahead of God.

David understood that he needed God to open doors for him and deliver him. We also need to be careful to not move without His leading because we usually mess things up when we do.

From experience, David learned that God had become “my rock and my salvation; he is my defence.” As our Rock, He is steadfast, solid, and unmovable. Faith is always involved when waiting on God and it will take courage to follow. We must trust God’s character and His promises at all times. Your faith will be tested. Remember that He is never late, but always right on time.

When we do trust Him, it leads to a life of inner peace and joy – not one of anxiety. It does not mean a life without problems – David had his share – and so did Paul. We have this peace because we can know that “I shall not be greatly moved.” We will never be tempted above that we are able to endure with His grace. Nothing can touch the believer trusting God unless God permits it. Praise His Name.

Because David learned to wait upon God, He was able to give us this promise in Psalm 27:14: “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”
