II Chronicles 7:13,14 “If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, of if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
After reading verse 13, it is very obvious that this passage is speaking to America. In case you missed it, notice the following three curses that God said He would bring when He has been forgotten and His people cease to walk in His ways:
1. “shut up heaven that there be no rain” – much of the land in the west is seeing drought and some crops have already been lost. The current heat wave will kill more!
2. “if I command the locusts to devour the land” – cicadas are locusts!
3. “if I send pestilence among my people” – COVID-19 fits the description! Many have already died and it is not over yet!
God has sent these three things in an effort to wake up American Christians. They can no longer be looked at as natural occurrences. He desires the following from His people:
1. To recognize that He has sent these things
2. To humble ourselves and admit that our hearts have drifted from loving Him with all our hearts and that we deserve this punishment
3. To seek His face in confession and desire to obey Him carefully from this point on
4. To let Him examine your heart for sin and then you turn from it.
5. To seek His face – blessing – by staying close to Him in the future with Bible reading, church attendance, prayer, and more.
He has acted – as He promised He would – when His people become enamored more with the world rather than Him!
It is time to make an appearance at the altar again – and then we will also see God fulfill the last part of this Scripture passage. There will be a healing of the land.
