Salvation from Sin to Service

Titus 2:14 “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”

Today’s devotional is a continuation from yesterday when it was seen that the previous verses deal with our salvation and God’s intentions for those who are saved. This verse repeats those ideas.

Christ, our Savior, willingly laid down His life for us. The more you meditate on that thought alone, the more you can appreciate that the Almighty God left glory to live among us and then die for us sinners is beyond comprehension. The only reason is because He loved us!

Even more than that, however, is that He saw what He could do for us. Since our sin condemned us, He desires to give us victory over sin – not just outward sins – but also sins of the heart. He wants to “redeem us from all iniquity.” Most believers are largely unaware of the power that He provides to enable us to truly see victory.

He desires to “purify” us so that we can be different from the people of the world. After all, we are His now and have been redeemed from our old way of life.

Finally, this verse tells us that God’s plan involves His people being “zealous of good works.” It means we should look for opportunities to be a blessing to other people – those in church and out of it. Of course, the greatest blessing we can give is to present the Gospel to them; and if they are already saved, encourage them to continue serving God in all the ways He desires.
