Hearing God’s Voice Today

Psalm 95:7-9 “For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness. When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.”

Yesterday, I talked about the first couple of verses from Psalm 95. It spoke of how believers ought to be a joyful people – singing to the Lord because of His works and His greatness.

The verses above talk about believers being His people; and, as such, we should to listening for what our Great King says to us. However, many believers today rarely ever hear from God or get real answers to prayer. They live their lives apart from His presence, His joy, guidance, and blessing.

The above verses reveal an important key to hearing from God. That important element is to “harden not your heart.” Israel did that in the wilderness. They had seen God perform many miracles for them, but although they knew what He wanted, they failed to do His will. They also remained unbelieving.

Although some believers even read the Bible every day and go to church, they fail to apply what they hear and read. Their hearts are unchanged even though they know that God said they should change their ways. They know what they should do, but have no real intention to do it. Simple obedience is far from their minds.

This can apply to many things. Most Christians know they should go to church weekly – but they don’t; they should love their neighbor – but they don’t; they should tithe – but they don’t; they should not marry unsaved people – but they do; etc.

As long as you have things in your life that you allow that you know God hates – it is sin. It is those things that prevent you from enjoying a close fellowship with the Almighty and holy God! The Bible tells us that God is not deaf to your needs – but “your iniquities have separated between you and your God” (Isaiah 59:2).

Are there some things (sins) in your life you need to confess to God and correct? If so, why not do it today – and start to be able to hear Him again?
