Psalm 19:7-9 “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.”
I meet and talk to a lot of people every week about their spiritual condition. One thing that I often hear among professing believers, when I ask them if they are reading their Bible daily, the answer – more often than not – is “No.” Christian friend, here are some quick reasons why it is hurting your walk with God – and your testimony.
The Word of God is the only food available that will strengthen the believer every day. Nothing else can strengthen your faith, lift your spirit, put a song in your heart for the day, or encourage you to keep going for the Lord. As the verses above testify, God’s Book will convert the soul, make you wise to God’s way of living, rejoice your heart, and it will enlighten your eyes.
Just as important, for those who will be faithful to read the Word of God daily, and study it, they will discover the truth of verse 10: “More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”
In a world that offers little real satisfaction, the Bible is like honey – a sweet and refreshing treat. It reminds us of His love for us and helps us remember we belong to Him and that He is coming back for us – soon. When He does, we will be with Him forever and no longer experience the things we experience down here. Praise God!
God can also give you peace of mind and heart every day – even in a world that knows little of either. So many people around us are deeply troubled by the things going on in the world and even in our neighborhoods. But the Bible tells us that God “wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isaiah 26:3).
Staying in the Bible and hiding its verses in your heart is also the key to victory. As you read, it will increase your faith and remind you of His precious promises. In II Corinthians 2:14 – one of my favorite verses – we are told: “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ.” The potential for victory is there.
Are you seeing joy, peace, victory, and power to serve God in your life? If you are tired of the results you have been getting, it is time to get back to the Word of God.
