I Thessalonians 2:12,13 “That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory. For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.”
The Holy Spirit tells believers in these verses to “walk worthy of God.” Although none of us are worthy, we must remember that we bear the family name. The Father’s reputation depends on how we live.
If we walk unworthy of being called a Christian – others will be inclined to not think very much of the salvation we claim to have. Why would anyone want what we have if we do not live different from the world?
By God’s great grace, we have been made free from sin and the world. What a privilege we have! Because of His grace, we are called “unto his kingdom and glory.” Certainly, our future is glorious – but those who have “walked worthy of God” will have eternal riches and crowns to wear.
We learn to “walk worthy of God” the same way that the people in the Thessalonian church did. They heard the Word, received it (believed it to be God’s Word), and then let it have its way in their hearts and lives. In other words – they let the words of God change and mold their lives so that they conformed to it.
Is the Word of God conforming your life to become more like the Son of God? Would God say that you are among those that are “walking worthy” of His Name and honor? If Christ came today, are there things you would be ashamed of in His presence?
