Psalm 100:4 “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”
At this time of year, most people in America are going to talk about Thanksgiving. It certainly is a holiday well-celebrated and enjoyed – usually with family and loved ones – and lots to eat.
When thinking about this time of year and this special holiday, it makes me wonder just how much thanks is actually being given to God – Who is the One that has given us so much.
Many churches will have special Thanksgiving services this week.
As I think about it, there could be no blessings without God. He is the Source of every one of them – even if they are delivered to us through human hands. He makes it possible to have and to give.
How could it be that anyone should be unthankful to the One that freely gives us so much? He enjoys being recognized as the One Who gives us our daily food and other benefits.
He has also given us religious freedom in this country. Truly, we can say with the Psalmist: “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits” (Ps. 103:2).
When praised for what He does, He often is glad to continue to bless. When ignored or forgotten, He could – and perhaps should – rightfully remove those blessings.
May God help each believer to truly be thankful to Him for all He has provided and done for us. Most importantly, that must include the Sacrifice of His Son to give us salvation. May we never forget it and take time especially this week to thank Him for His kindness and mercy in giving us such an undeserved Gift!
Colossians 2:7 “Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”
