Galatians 1:4 “Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:”
The Lord Jesus Christ paid a horrible price to redeem us from our sin and its penalty. Yes, God loves you and me, but the Cross reveals just how much He hates sin – no matter where it is found.
Because of God’s hatred of sin, it amazes me how some professing believers say that they can live how they want. No, the liberty that Christ purchased for us is for the purpose of delivering “us from this present evil world” – and its ways.
What is it about the “present evil world” that God hates? It is simply rebellion against His known will. For starters, His will is revealed in the Ten Commandments and in the Bible.
To enable His twice-born children to escape this “evil world” and its ways, God did four things:
- He made us new creatures (II Cor. 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”)
- He put His Holy Spirit within our hearts (Eph. 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,”)
- He gave us His Word (Ps. 119:11 “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”)
- He gave us great promises in His Word (Ii. Pe. 1:4 “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.“)
These four things (and more) enable God’s children to live unto God and no longer for ourselves. His power is real to deliver from any sin – but you must want to live for Him. You can be sure that He wants to deliver you from sin much more than you could ever want it!
Have you sincerely asked Him for the deliverance you need? How are you doing so far in getting victory?
