The Secret of Christian Joy

By | August 4, 2022

Psalm 16:11 “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

Christians have the privilege of having joy beyond anything the unsaved can ever know. Even when trouble comes, our joy can still be present.

For the believer, joy comes from the inside – where Christ dwells. It is not the same thing as “fun.” Neither does it need to be pumped up or self-generated. Instead, it just flows from His presence when you are in tune with Him.

This verse reveals three things that believers can be confident of. They are:

  1. He leads us to the abundant life

John 10:10 reveals that Jesus promised an abundant life. This means a life better than anything you knew before. He is willing to show you how to enter that life – and show you how to stay in that “path.”

  1. The secret of that joy

The key to having the kind of joy He wants to give you is to stay in His presence. It means going to the prayer closet often. The song tells us “Burdens are lifted at Calvary” – they certainly are. In His presence – taking your burdens to the Lord – will bring the peace that passes the understanding.

  1. The promise of eternal joy

When we get to glory – at His “right hand,” it will be constant joy without sorrow. All tears will be wiped away. There will not be anything left to bring a tear or sorrow. Praise God.

With His joy present and the promise of a joy-filled eternity, we can serve Him as we ought now. Do you have the joy He wants to give you because you are “in His presence” often?
