Luke 2:6-7 “And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.”
After the long journey and wait, Mary gives birth to the Promised One. He was the One Israel had been waiting for. They knew He would come one day.
Baby Jesus is born. Although He looked like a mortal human – He was much more. He came into the world as one of us, yet He never was less than God. John 1:14 says: “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
In the very first verse of John, we are told that “the Word” was both with God and He was God. Verse 14 tells us that the One called the Word came in human flesh. That same verse also points out that He had the same glory as God the Father – not a visible light – but glorious in “grace and truth.”
It is believed that the birthplace of Jesus was most likely where the priests in the Jerusalem Temple kept the sheep that would be offered for sacrifice. When those lambs were born, they were wrapped in swaddling clothes to protect them from hurting themselves. It was also the fabric used to wrap dead bodies in – a perfect picture of Christ as being the Lamb Who would one day die to take away our sins.
His birthplace was not an accident, nor were the circumstances surrounding His birth. Although His earthly Body was born to humble parents (Joseph was not His father – God was), and all through His ministry He had no place to lay His head, you can be sure He will not return in the same way.
All through His life, and death, He was being prepared to know how to comfort and help those Who come to Him in faith – first for salvation, second, as His children needing His help. He is able to save, to keep, and to comfort when needed. Hebrews 4:15 says: “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
Do you have a life of peace because you have taken your burdens to Him? Do you have His joy because you know He is still in control? Christian, you can have both – He is waiting your call.
