Psalm 107:22 “And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.”
Psalm 116:17 “I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.”
Thanksgiving Day has arrived. I hope you have a good one. No doubt, most of you reading this will do some feasting today and will probably do it with some family members and friends. Thanksgiving is a day to rejoice because God has been good to us.
As I read the two verses above, the idea of “sacrifice” and “thanksgiving” being in the same verses seemed rather odd at first. Especially since most of us will be stuffing ourselves with the bounty God has given us. Still, there is a message here for us – especially today.
Or, if we do think of a sacrifice today – it is the turkey that we will enjoy. It will not be a sacrifice to us.
God, however, is still interested in being remembered and thanked on this day – and every day. After all, all good things are from Him.
The “sacrifice of thanksgiving” that God desires is that you, as a believer, take some time out of your holiday festivities today and give Him thanks. Put Him first for a few minutes. Remind the family and friends with you that everyone owes so much to God and His goodness.
His greatest blessing to us, of course, is His Son Jesus that died to take away our deserved penalty for sin and the assurance that we have of His resurrection. Because He rose again, we can be sure that we also will one day live again! Thank God for eternal life that will one day be ours!
Notice in the first verse that as we recall His blessings today that we are to have joy in doing so. He is worthy of all honor and glory and praise. Won’t you take some time, Christian, to thank Him for what He has done for you today?
