The Purpose of Thanksgiving

Psalm 68:19 “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.”

Thanksgiving Day has arrived. Although it is a special day created to help people remember God and thank Him for His multiplied blessings to our nation and ourselves, I have to wonder how many people will actually take time (more than one minute) to thank Him for those blessings?

He really has been good to America. We still have some freedoms, can worship God freely, have His Bible, and enjoy the riches of this country. Most of us have good health (though many do not), we have food to eat, clothes, and a roof over our head. We have family, a caring church, and access to medical care.

Most of all, we have a sure salvation through God’s Son – Jesus Christ. He has purchased our salvation, given us eternal life, a work to do, and a glorious Home to look forward to. He also answers prayer and provides for our daily needs. Could we ask for any more?

Certainly, He has blessed us! Have you taken time today to thank Him for His countless blessings? If not, why not stop and do so right now?

1Thessalonians 5:18 “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
