The Eternal Love of God

Jeremiah 31:3 “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.”

It is good to remember that God has tremendous love towards His people. It is not a love based on your performance, your goodness, or your personal righteousness.

His love existed before the world was formed by Him. He has always known about you and everything there is to know about you. There is nothing He does not know – yet He still loves you.

The context of this verse is speaking of the nation of Israel and God’s future plans for the country. Yes, God will rebuild Israel, but this same kind of love is toward all His people – especially those who have experienced the new birth through faith in Christ.

This kind of love is hard to imagine. Sometimes we may feel that God does not love us, especially after we have sinned in some way. Yet, His love is constant, but unconfessed sin breaks the fellowship.

If you are not a believer in Christ, you cannot imagine such love because you cannot experience it. Jesus Christ died for you to take away all your sins so you could go to Heaven. He suffered horribly before He was put on the cross and after He was on it – for you. If you will call on Him and ask Him to save you – He will do it today.

The Bible says that nothing can separate the believer from His love. Many believers have forgotten what it is like to walk in His love and joy. It will energize you afresh in Christian service and help you walk in holiness because you will enjoy Him anew. Christian, why not seek to walk close to Him again?
