Psalm 145:18 “The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.”
One of the most powerful types of evidence of the truthfulness of the Bible (and there are many), is that God answers prayer. David learned this early in his life and kept on praying regularly throughout his troubled life.
A verse that has been used here before is Psalm 116:1. It is a testimony of a person who saw frequent answers to prayer. He said: “I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.” I hope, Christian, that you can say it as well from personal experience.
As this writer saw more answers to prayer, his love for God grew – as it will for you. This verse implies that God does not hear every prayer.
The text verse reveals that God wants to hear our prayers, but He will only hear those that are offered “in truth.” We know that God’s Word is truth, and those who want answers must pray according to His Word. His Word, the Bible, teaches that he hears the prayers of the saved when they are prayed according to His will.
When a believer wants answers to prayer, sin must first be confessed and there needs to be a surrender to His will. He is not Santa Claus – He knows who is being obedient and who is not.
A surrendered believer seeks first the kingdom of God and the glory of Christ. Specific prayers need to be made – all in accordance with the Word.
While most Christians will admit that not all their prayers have been answered, most will also say that it was a good thing that they were not. The more we serve Christ and do His will, the more we learn how to pray the way He wants – and the more answers we will see. Pray on and keep on serving.
