Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
One of the most important doctrines (teachings) to stand on in the Bible is the doctrine of creation. Yes, that means God created it all.
Today, many Christians seem to be confused about what the Bible really says about the existence of the universe and ourselves. To them, evolution plays a strong part in their interpretation of our existence.
The Bible is very clear, however, on where all things came from. For this reason, the Devil and his people (knowingly or unknowingly) strongly attack this doctrine. After all, if we are the product of billions of years of evolution, then the Bible is not true and not worth believing.
The word “creat*” (create, creation, and created) occurs in 53 verses in the Old and New Testaments. Since God inspired every word (II Timothy 2:15), it is not used or translated incorrectly. He created all things out of nothing.
Other verses in the Bible repeat the same thought using other words. The word “made” is also used to indicate creation, as in Exodus 20:11: “For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”
Genesis 1:16 reveals that God also made the stars, which form galaxies, etc.,: “And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.“ Jesus also referred to the creation account in Mark 10:6. He said: “But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.”
The doctrine of creation explains many things in the Bible. Some of them include:
-
How things came to be
-
How we came to be
-
That humans are distinct from the animal world – the pinnacle of God’s creation
-
That humans are made in the “image of God” and we have free choice
-
That humans were made to fellowship with and serve God
-
That humans were made to live somewhere eternally.
-
God’s right to do with His creation and people as He wishes – since we also understand that we are created for His glory! (Revelation 4:11 “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”)
