Psalm 122:1 “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.”
Some people go to church not expecting much – and that is about what they will get out of it. Oftentimes, they look at going to church as a duty. Maybe they are afraid of what the Pastor will say if they are not there – or others in the congregation.
Then, there are a few people that, like David, are glad to go to church. David had the right reason to go – he loved the Lord. He looked at gathering together with other believers as a joy – because the Lord was his joy. He also enjoyed the fellowship of like-minded people.
Now, it is true that you do not need to go to church to be saved – but you must if you are a real Christian. The word “Christian” means little Christ – or one who is like Christ. Jesus went into the synagogue every Sabbath. To be like Jesus, you need to make an appearance at a local church and worship – not just socialize.
God also commands every believer to go to a local assembly. We see this in Hebrews 10:25: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
