A lot of things have been happening in America lately – negative and destructive things – and many of them are unprecedented in recent times. While it is only natural that some scientists and others will try and explain these events as having natural causes, the real cause escapes many people.
The trouble that America and other nations are facing today is because God is judging it. This is why we are seeing extreme events and situations in this country that are unequaled in recent times.
In a way, God’s judgments are a blessing because if He did not judge sin, people would naturally continue in it and the world would quickly become worse. Sinning people would assume that God either does not see them or does not care about their sin.
Judgment from God is both a punishment and a means of curtailing sin. It is also designed to bring the saved into a closer walk with Him – if they recognize that it is from God.
Why would God judge America? There are many reasons. They include:
- Even though God commands believers to not forsake the local assembling of believers at church (Heb. 10:25), they are forsaking it in droves.
- Believers are placing their personal interests above God’s plan for them (not seeking first the Kingdom of God – Mt. 6:33).
- Sin is becoming more open among unbelievers and believers.
- Unbelievers have become indifferent to God because of the indifference of the church to their condition before God – they are lost without hope.
- Believers are seeking convenient truth and forms of worship (worldly) rather than God’s appointed way.
- Some churches are compromising the truth to make the unsaved comfortable – making them go to Hell deceived.
- Many churches are completely ignoring the Great Commission and are failing to tell the world about Jesus and His saving grace – which is the purpose of why believers are here.
God has always used punishments as a means to bring His people back to Himself. It is quite effective – but only some will take heed. Others will continue in their proud and sinful ways. God wants repentance and a return to “first love.”
One thing is still true, as stated in Ps. 9:17: “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.”
