Matthew 18:2,3 “And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”
Because of sin, people tend to be proud. It is especially true in matters of salvation. No one naturally likes to think of themselves as being completely bad.
In God’s eyes, that is exactly where we stand. Because we have sinned, we are sinners, condemned, and on our way to Hell. We know what is good but find that there is a tendency within us to occasionally (Or, often) sin – and we often enjoy it.
We know inside that we are not without sin but like to think that it is not so bad. Surely, we convince ourselves that we are not worthy to go to Hell. Many people believe that if we do some religious works – God would accept us.
Although this thinking is worldwide, it is not what the Bible teaches. God tells us in His Word that we all are sinners and must pay the price: “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).
No amount of good works can erase any sin, nor can it make any person more acceptable with God: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8,9).
Christ paid the price for our sin on the Cross and died for us. He was buried and rose again to prove forgiveness is possible.
Humility enters into the picture because you must realize He did not die for you because you are worthy, nor will you ever be. We all are unworthy – but He loved us and chose to redeem us when we could not.
Then, we must realize we cannot earn salvation, but we must humbly accept it as a child – in simple faith. Salvation is offered as a gift, and you must accept it from Him as such.
You can do this right now by asking Him to forgive you. Thank Him for paying the price you owed and ask Him to save you right now. Then, ask Him to help you live for Him from now on.
