Malachi 4:6 “And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”
What a blessing to have a Father’s Day in this country. It is a day when believers and others are reminded of the fifth commandment: “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee” (Exodus 20:12).
Fathers are to be honored – as well as mothers, this verse says. It is not a conditional commandment – whether they were a good father or not – or even if they were a present father – they are to be honored – God tells us, and He promises to bless – if you want to live long.
If you had a godly father, you can thank God for it – many do not have the privilege. It is especially true if they took you to church so that you could hear the Gospel and be saved.
Today, many churches honored fathers. The greatest blessing a home could have is a godly father that leads the home to God. Many churches no doubt reminded believers of the fathers’ responsibility in the home. The strength of any church, as well as that of the nation, is determined by the strength of the home.
In today’s world, we are seeing a turning away from the churches. Many fathers and mothers are “too busy” to bother with church. No wonder their children are not interested in following God or going to church. They also are not saved and do not have godly principles guiding their lives.
May God help fathers get back to God, the Bible, and the local church for their children’s sake!
