Hebrews 6:11,12 “And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”
In the verse prior to the above, Paul commends the recipients for their good works toward other believers. They did it for the Lord and he adds that God will not forget it.
Good works will not save anyone, but we are to perform them because we are to be like the Lord Jesus while He was on earth. We also need to thank Him for His continued good works and kindnesses which He continues to show us every day. Where would we be without them?
The above verses encourage these believers to continue with the same zeal and “diligence” until Christ comes back. They were to do it in expectation of our Lord’s return, remembering that it is He Who will reward us for it – even for giving a simple glass of cold water to a brother or sister in need.
Christians are not to be “slothful” in good works – especially toward other believers. Some of God’s people before us (Biblical) and modern ones have set an example and pattern for us to duplicate. Our good works should be directed by wisdom and they should also be done as to the Lord Himself and His glory.
