Christmas Is About God’s Mercy

Psalm 103:8-11 “The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.”

The fact that the Son of God came into our world at all is a very powerful demonstration of the mercy of God. He did not have to come. Ever since Adam, the entire human race has repeatedly and deliberately broken God’s law and, because of sin, has prevented God from giving His best to us in this world.

Instead of the perfect world He created for us, sin brought about a curse upon it. Although there is much beauty in our world still, evidence of the curse is very much seen all around us.

Through the Sacrifice of His Son at Calvary, His mercy invites all to come to Christ for forgiveness, cleansing, a new start, salvation, and Sonship. He certainly has “not dealt with us after our sins” – which would merit Hell.

God’s mercy does not end at salvation, He desires to demonstrate it over and over to His redeemed children. We certainly need it – and thank God – He freely and readily gives it to the sincere.

When God’s people turn to Him and seek His forgiveness and fellowship, He immediately restores that believer. Like the prodigal son’s return to the father, there is joy and a welcome to be found.

A new year will soon be here. Will you seek to be in close fellowship with God? His mercy awaits your call, and He will revive and strengthen you anew.
