Galatians 6:15 “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.”
The Apostle Paul seeks to end the argument of whether it is better to keep the Law of Moses (circumcision) or to not keep it at all (uncircumcision – those not practicing the Jewish religion) for salvation. All religions other than Christianity emphasize doing good as part of the means of salvation.
In this verse, Paul once again makes it plain that the only thing that will save anyone is being “a new creature.” He is not speaking of reform, baptism, or joining a church – although they have their place.
Becoming “a new creature” is what God does when a person believes on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. Jesus called it being “born again” (John 3:3). Just like a leopard cannot change his spots, neither can a sinner stop sinning. Although Christians are not perfect, many will seek to please God.
Titus 3:5 describes this work of God that brings salvation this way: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.” He also says that when God saves someone from the penalty of sin and Hell, He makes them a “new creature” (II Corinthians 5:17).
Many people who claim to be Christians miss this point. They may have made some kind of profession at some point, but many were never changed. The Bible is very clear on this – no change – no salvation. The Bible tells its readers multiple times that people need to make sure of their salvation and not guess at it. After all, there is no second chance. It is a decision that affects your eternal destination!
Reader, I encourage you to examine yourself to determine if you truly are “a new creature.” If you are not sure, why not call on the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation right now – and put an end to the uncertainty?
