America’s Empty Churches

Matthew 15:8,9 “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoured me with their lips; but their  heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”

As I was driving to church this past Sunday morning (yesterday), I was amazed at how many cars were still parked in their driveways. I became burdened as it made me wonder how many of those people used to go to church and enjoyed it.

Then, during the morning worship service and as the singing was taking place, I wondered how many minds were really engaged in worship – even though the songs were about worship.

Since I am in many different churches all the time, let me say that there is a difference in our churches today than there was before Covid. Nearly all churches are down in numbers by at least 30 percent because of the pandemic. None of us knows how long Covid (or monkey pox, etc.) will be with us. Regardless, the believer is still expected to “assemble” regularly (Hebrews 10:25) and worship because it can help enable you to stand faithful in our Lord’s eyes (why would we want to please anyone else since everything in this world will soon be gone at the Rapture?) – and we will be, too!

I am not trying to be judgmental, but certainly our Lord’s words in Matthew 24:12 are becoming true in these days: “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” Although it certainly can get worse and many more Bible preaching churches will close their doors – it does not have to be that way with you, dear Christian reader!

The power of the Holy Spirit can still make a difference in cold hearts. And, just as important – He is waiting for the opportunity!

Christian, is your heart right with Him, today? Are you filled with His Spirit and worshiping Him with your heart, your lips, and your daily actions? If not, why not take the matter to God right now and ask Him to forgive you and fill you afresh for renewed worship and faithful service?
