God’s Power Delivers

Psalm 34:6-8 “This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”

In my last blog post, we saw how that God has all power. Nothing is impossible to Him.

In love, He makes His power available to all His children. It is there when needed.

The text above starts out with a “poor man.” This is the position we must take if we want to receive anything from God. We cannot get deliverance from sin; we cannot defeat Satan; we cannot manufacture the fruit of the Spirit; we cannot do His work without Him; and we cannot win souls apart from Him. Because we are poor and unable to do His will in the flesh, we need Him to bless us or we labor in vain.

The thing that changes our condition and situation is crying out unto God in prayer. We must seek Him for help. The “crying out” mentioned in this verse refers to getting serious with God. God can hear even the cry of our hearts, but sometimes He wants to see how badly we want His power and help.

God’s delay in answering prayer may be because our hearts, desires, and submission to His will may not be wholehearted. More tarrying in the Upper Room may be required. He may want us to check our motives or faith so they can be perfected.

The next verse tells us that God’s angel is encamped around us. If he is encamped there it means he is not going anywhere. He is ready to deliver and is waiting for orders from on high to do so.

The good news is that God’s people who rightly respect (“fear”) God – have deliverance. They get answers to their prayers.

When Christians stay close to God and get deliverance and victory, they discover over and over that God is good. He is also merciful and faithful – and He loves, too. How true it is that: O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”
