The Benefits of Starting the Day with God

Psalm 5:3 “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”

David, the man after God’s own heart, loved to talk to God in the morning. He found it to be a tremendous source of blessing and he maintained this habit throughout his life. His daily devotion time consisted of Bible reading, meditation, and prayer.

The king of Israel also loved to be in the presence of God and he longed for it when he could not. He also prayed regularly multiple times throughout the day.  Just like David, Christians will find that the greatest blessing of the day starts with spending time in the Word and prayer in the morning.

One of those blessings is that you are reminded of God’s love for you. This will help you have confidence (trust) in God through the day. David said, in Psalm 143:8: Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.”

Another blessing, seen in the above verse, is that you can place your day in God’s hands and let Him direct you through it. If you are willing to follow His leading, He has promised to guide. When He does, it will prevent joyless and fruitless days. Instead, your steps will be guided by God.

A third blessing is that you will be able to sense His presence with you through the day. When God blesses because you are in tune with Him, you will have peace and joy in your heart. Could there be a better way to start the day! Being in tune with Him, however, means surrender to His will and a readiness to obey – like David.

A fourth blessing is that, if you are surrendered to do His will and your sin is confessed, then you can have confidence that God will hear your prayer. This is the time to make your requests known to God and to pray for others and their needs.
