Luke 2:9,10 “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
It had been nearly 400 years since there was any message from Heaven. The silence, for zealous believers in that day, had become almost unbearable.
On the first Christmas morning, that silence was broken. Heaven responded to their pleas for help, but it had not come as they had hoped. Israel wanted a Deliverer from Roman oppression.
On that morning, the shepherds heard the greatest news that could be heard – a Savior was born. This Savior was God Himself taking on human form.
The greatest oppressor of the Jews – and the people of all ages – was Satan and sin, not Rome (although that was also difficult to bear). God sent a Deliverer for their greatest need, but the deliverance would not come immediately.
Christ would grant victory over the old enslaver – Satan, and would give us eternal life. He would wash away the sins of those who believe in Him. That is the need of every person in the world!
What joy it is to know that sins are forgiven and our names are recorded in the Lamb’s Book of life. He has done it by Himself and made it possible that we can be assured of it.
Do you know for sure that your sins are forgiven and that Heaven will be your eternal Home?
