More Doctrines to Stand On: The Doctrine of the Rapture and Second Coming

I Corinthians 15:42-44 “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.”

Vss. 52,53 “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”

Although the word “rapture” does not occur in the KJV, the word refers to an event that the Bible clearly teaches. It speaks of an event that takes place “in the twinkling of an eye.” The Lord Jesus comes to the earth in the skies and raises all believers (dead and alive) to meet with Him and then takes all of them to glory.

The Rapture is an event that believers have looked forward to for millennia. It takes place seven years before the event called the Second Coming.

It is pictured in Revelation 4:1, which says: “After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.”

In this verse, which immediately follows the Lord’s dealing with the seven churches (Revelation chapters 2 & 3), John is taken in spirit to Heaven. After this verse, there is no reference to the church in chapters 4 through chapter 19.

In chapters 4 through 19, the Tribulation takes place on earth. Because there is no reference to the church in them, it is certain that the Bride of Christ is no longer on earth.

The Second Coming occurs when Christ comes back with all the saints (believers in Heaven). He rides a white horse and destroys all His enemies and unbelievers. Once that is done, He sets up His Throne in Jerusalem and reigns for 1,000 years.
