O grave, where is thy victory?”

Death is sure in this world. Funerals take place every day all around the world. Everyone reading this will one day yield up the ghost. For the believer that has died and for those believers that knew him or her that passed away, however, there is hope.

Just this past week, I was in a memorial service. My sister-in-law, who had COVID, died. Both my brother and his wife were saved and loved the Lord. They served in their local church in various ways and were a blessing to many.

For my surviving brother, there is hope. He knows very well that he will see her again in glory. He has calmness of heart and is confident – because of the plain teaching of the Bible – that the Lord took her home to Heaven. Yes, certainly there will be a time of grieving, which is natural, but hope is dominant. She has merely gone on ahead to a sure future with Christ.

For those who do not know the Lord and the Word of God, death is a tragedy. For the believer, there is calmness and hope – no sting of death. You see, the grave can only claim the body but not the spirit or soul. Because believers know that they will receive an immortal body one day – the grave has no victory. Christ makes the difference.

There is a great difference between the way believers and unbelievers view death. Believers understand that what Christ has done for us, enables us, like Paul, to be able to say: “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” (II Corinthians 5:8). To the believer, death is but a doorway to a glorious and eternal future with Christ.

The Scare of Eternity https://101info.org/the-scare-of-eternity/ https://101info.org/the-scare-of-eternity/#respond Wed, 20 Oct 2021 12:00:46 +0000 https://101info.org/?p=603 Read More »]]> II Corinthians 6:2 “(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)”

It is not unusual that people try not to think of eternity and where they will spend it. We tend to focus on this life and what it has to offer and we naturally anticipate being here on earth considerably longer.

This tendency to focus on the now rather than eternity has people forgetting that there will be a day when each person will answer to God for what was done in this life (Romans 2:5 “But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God.”). God can only break this tendency by disrupting normal life – which usually means a sudden interruption of life’s plans – a wake-up call.

Many things can break up the limited vision, but it often occurs as a tragedy of some kind. By it, God aims to make people see that they do not live forever – which is why our verse above declares that today is the “day of salvation.” “Today,” not in a tomorrow that may never come. Today you could step into eternity – as you can be certain that many people will.

Some people that were aboard that jet in Texas that crashed on takeoff can thank God that their lives were spared. The fact that no one was seriously hurt is a miracle of God. It could have been much worse.

God allows – not necessarily causes – similar events to wake people out of their sleep. Sometimes it may be a health scare (such as COVID), or a sudden illness, or even death. Those that are affected by it need to make sure of their salvation.

Everyone needs to prepare for eternity. We all will end up in it. The question is: Where will you spend it – Heaven or Hell?

Christ died for your sins. He waits for you to call on Him for forgiveness and salvation. Get it settled today. Learn more about salvation by going here.
