These two verses reveal the Father’s ongoing love for His children. He tells us not to worry about our daily necessities because He will take care of them.

Although He does not promise that we shall have the latest fashions in clothes, He does promise to keep us in clothes. Although He does not promise we will have steak for our meals, they will be nourishing and good for us. Thank God for that. Many times have I seen God miraculously provide food for my family from sources that we did not suspect.

Believers have the unique privilege of becoming God’s own children. He immediately puts us into His family the moment we are born again (John 3:3). It reveals a distinct difference between us and the animal kingdom: “Are ye not much better than they?” They cannot become His children.

Each of us needs to remember that we have the food, clothes, and possessions we have because He is good to us. Do you have a job? Thank God for it and for those other blessings He gives us every day. They come to His faithful children because He cares.

We are not to worry about these needful things so that we can focus on doing His will and worshipping Him. If you have need of these things – He will provide. He may be waiting, though, to help you seek Him and believe His promises.

Psalm 23:5 “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”

Continuing the theme of God’s ability to provide, it is seen in this verse that God has no limits as to where and how He will meet your needs. Sometimes it seems He loves to come up with ways that you never thought of. Even in the presence of your enemies, He can provide. In Psalm 37:25, David said: “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”

Oil was commonly used in the East in those days to prevent sunburn. Our Shepherd takes care of our need for food and provisions for our health. He knows our needs and loves us. We can ask Him and thank Him for His care.

Finally, this verse says that “my cup runneth over.” God’s provision is not meager – but abundant. It may not be the best – in the sense of steaks for every meal – but it will meet your needs. Be thankful for what He provides.

God’s people have His blessing when they seek to walk with and please Him. He is more than glad to meet your needs – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. As His sheep, we could not have a better Caretaker.

Not only does He promise sufficient provision for this life, but also sufficient power to do all His will. His grace will always be enough – even in the time of trouble and sorrow. He has promised: “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly” (Psalm 84:11).

There are many things in our world that could be a source of anxiety today. Just watching the news or seeing what is taking place around us offers plenty of reason to be concerned about something.

The Christian, however, does not need to be anxious. We have many promises in the Scriptures that reveal that God is faithful to His children and wants to help them.

The solution starts with the “fear of God.” This does not refer to a dread of God or of being punished by Him if you step out of line. He loves His children that have been born by the new birth.

What God wants is for you to respect and honor Him – not just with your words – but to show Him you are His servant, you love Him, and are obeying Him. Once that matter is settled, He takes care of the rest.

Your needs will be met. He promises that “for there is no want to them that fear him.” It means that you will have all you need for daily life. It does not mean you will have all you want.

In case you are not sure what God meant by the first “no want” – God repeats the idea in the same verse: “they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.” This is strong assurance to every believer that He will take care of you.

He mentions that even lions – as strong as they are – sometimes go hungry. You, however – child of God – are cared for by your Heavenly Father, and He can provide for you much better than even lions can provide for themselves.

Instead of looking to your own ability to provide, why not confess the anxiety and start looking to God in faith? He can and will provide as long as you serve Him because He loves you.
