The world says successful people are powerful, make a lot of money, and have a lot of possessions. This is seen by the people that the world holds in esteem, their lives are followed in the media – and the world envies.

On the other hand, God completely disregards them and He looks to and honors the humble believer that knows Him and spends time in the Word of God. There is a special promise of success in the Bible that is attached to time spent meditating on the Bible and its teachings:

“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper (Psalm 1:2,3).

While everyone wants to be successful in something, the believer needs to be careful whose eyes they are trying to please. It is God or the world – you cannot please both.

Biblical meditation does not mean blanking your mind and thinking on absolutely nothing. Instead, God wants His people to be always focused on Him and His Word all through the day. This can be done more readily if you hide the Word of God in your heart by memorizing key verses.

Success to God is measured by doing His will and not doing those things He hates. As you find guidelines in the Bible, add them – or subtract them – from your life as His Word directs. He may not always bless materially, but the greatest blessings include joy, peace, fellowshipping with Him, victory over sin, and having Him use you in His service each day. He will take care of the rest.

While the world may not think very highly of God’s people, God will say of His faithful servants that “the world was not worthy” of them (Hebrews 11:38). And, you can be sure that when they get to Heaven that God will richly reward and honor them!
