There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

If there is ever a time when we might be tempted to fall, it is now. We are living in a rapidly increasingly promiscuous society in which anything goes. With the Labor Day weekend coming up, there is an even stronger possibility of falling.

There will be temptations galore almost anywhere you go. One of the biggest temptations occurs on a long weekend when Christians think they can skip church. Skipping church means that already you have fallen and sinned against a Savior Who tells us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together (He. 10:25).

The key to standing faithful to our Lord is to always do what is right. We are to “take heed” that we do not veer from the path God has chosen for us.

We must always remember that the strongest saints have also fallen, and it usually began with a small compromise. No sin is small to God – they are all as rebellion. Satan does not only give you big temptations – especially not when a small one will do. Remember Eve, the temptation was simply to eat a piece of fruit! It also came with a great promise of being like God.

As we watch for temptation, we must remember that no temptation is beyond the ability to resist with Christ’s help. He has promised to limit it, and to help us escape. Prayer for help and strength must be made as soon as you recognize the temptation. Dwelling on it always leads to sin.

Some may already be thinking that you will not fall (sin) this weekend. That is an attitude heading for disaster. If we think we will stand and do well, our text verse warns that there is trouble ahead. The only way any believer can be sure to stand and have victory is to keep their eyes on the Lord hour-by-hour.
