The various religions of the world have created their God or gods after the likeness of mankind. They are fallible, vengeful, unloving, often indifferent to the needs of humans, and commit the same sins as humans. It is the sinfulness of mankind that brought about these corruptions of His perfect nature: “And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things” (Romans 1:23).

Only the Bible presents God as being without sin – and One Who still loves the sinner.

The very first verse offers no attempt to prove that God exists – but reveals that He does and that He created everything in six days. It speaks of God as having unimaginable and incomprehensible power (omnipotent) and wisdom.

The God that the Bible speaks of has no need of anything outside of Himself because He is complete and fully self-sufficient and self-existing. Yet He created humans and wants to reveal Himself to and communicate with them.

To accomplish this, God has put a basic knowledge of Himself in the hearts of all people. He also uses creation to point people to Himself: “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

He knows all things (past, present, and future – omniscient) and has a direction (a perfect plan) that He is leading the world to fulfill, and none of His overall purposes can be prevented or thwarted. It involves a future glorious world that the righteous (the saved) shall inherit and a world of torment where the wicked and unrepentant shall dwell forever.

God is also infinitely good and merciful. Romans 2:4 tells us: “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?” Because He is good, He desires all people to be reconciled to Him – for “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

The Bible is the only authoritative source of knowledge about God. God is knowable when you search for Him with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:13), and come to Him through Christ.

Those who question the existence of God are most foolish: “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God” (Psalm 14:1).

Much more could be said about God, but these things will have to do for now. His nature as given in the Bible must be believed and defended by all true believers.
