Paying Attention to the Little Things

Luke 16:10-12 “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?”

God gives to His children many things every day. Most of us have much more than we need to get by.

In all the things we have, He expects us to be wise and thankful for them – no matter how small. In a sense, all of them are a test of where our hearts are. If found faithful, He is willing to bless us.

The verses above and the parable before them, focus on “mammon” – or money. God wants us to be good stewards of the money He gives us. It may come as a gift, money you are able to earn, an inheritance, investments, etc.

One way He will test faithfulness is to see if you will give Him a portion of the money He gives you back out of thankfulness. It is called a tithe. To some people, it is one of those “little things” that they believe they can gladly ignore.

According to the infallible Word of God, He says: “And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?” In other words, why should He continue to give you blessings if you continue to be an unfaithful steward? Your heavenly riches are also dependent on your being a faithful steward down here.

With these thoughts in mind, the tithe may not be such a “little thing” after all! Four times the word “faithful” appears in the three verses above. It certainly reveals that God is emphasizing the importance of being good stewards. He takes notice of how you use your “mammon.”
