Psalm 31:24 “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.”
There is no doubt that being one who goes forward against challenges will face some opposition. Every competitor in the Olympics knows this. Someone would tell them you aren’t good enough. Others might say that you would be better off living for a different goal. In spite of that, and with some encouragement, they kept on.
Serving Christ in a world of unbelief also has its challenges. There are others who do not believe in the life we live, and they wonder why we do it. They do not understand why we serve Christ, or why we do not do the things they do. Some will criticize us and try to make us miserable.
In spite of that, we know that God’s own Son died for us and He now lives within our hearts. He has changed us, and we are glad He did.
Discouragement will come from time to time, and we may become disheartened. It may also seem like very few people are going the same direction we are going. These feelings do not come from God.
God tells us, in this Bible verse, to be courageous. This will come from one place – time spent in Bible reading in the presence of God. He wants to give us courage and boldness to live and speak for Him.
As the verse says, if we will determine to serve Him, He will strengthen our hearts so that we can. There is no need to turn back. Remember God’s lesson to Paul: “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (II Corinthians 12:9). We will often discover we are strongest in Him when we feel our own weakness the most!
