Bible Promise of the Day – The Power of Regular Worship

God's Promises Are Ever Faithful
God’s Promises Are Ever Faithful

Psalm 84:4 “Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.”

As I walk around some large stores on occasion, I always like to see who I believe is really happy. Even here in the more “Christian” South, I see very few people who appear to be happy, although some have a genuine appearance of being happy. Being that there are so few disappoints me greatly.

The Bible verse for today starts with the word “Blessed.” This is another word for “happy.” I have no idea how many people in those stores actually go to church, or are saved, but I strongly believe there is somewhat of a correlation between being happy and worshiping the Lord.

David, by experience, knew that being around God and the people of God in regular worship leads to a joyous heart. Of course, this assumes that the individual is willing to forsake sin and truly worship God from the heart.

Christ Saves - not a Church
Going to Church Can Make You A Blessed Christian

David said it like this, in Psalm 16:11: “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” He found incredible joy from really being in God’s presence – which is different from merely being in a church building.

I find that this Bible promise is still true. I enjoy being around God’s people, and worshiping and fellowshipping with Him. So do true Christians.

Some Christians, or some people who like to think they are Christians, apparently have not found this to be true – or they have forgotten it. This must be one reason so few have real joy in their hearts.

What David is saying in the verse for the text today is that if you will continue to serve and honor God in church, you will be enabled to still have a song in your heart that honors God. People will never be perfect and may disappoint, not even pastors.

If you, as a Christian, have lost your joy and praise for God, is it because you stopped going to church? If for some reason there is a problem at a particular church, find another one. Don’t be a defeated and unhappy (unblessed) Christian any more. If you are saved, love God, and prove to yourself and to the world that He is still worth serving! Find that blessedness of dwelling in His house again! Praise His eternal Name!

I trust that you will be in church this morning – or perhaps tonight or next Sunday. Don’t put it off. May our Lord bless you as you are faithful to His place of worship – with the people of God. Be one of those that others can tell are genuinely happy; and when they ask what makes you happy, be sure to tell them!

Bible Promise for the Day – Peace in the Midst of Trouble

Psalm 119:165 “Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.”

There is trouble all around the world. Turmoil, rebellion, and evil abound. Many people are stressed out about it, and political leaders are wringing their hands because there are no easy solutions in sight. The amount of pills and drugs being used, and growing, , along with crime and violence, testifies loudly that there is no peace.

The ones that are capable of keeping a cool head in the midst of trouble ought to be the child of God. This Bible verse reveals that God will enable them to have “great peace”, and it is incapable of being disturbed: “nothing shall offend them.” It certainly is real, as many believers will gladly testify.

No, the verse does not apply to just anyone that calls themselves a Christian, although it is available to all. They must love “thy law.” Of course, this is speaking of the law of God. Not just the Ten Commandments, but all of His principles.

Many believers, unfortunately, have picked up the spirit of the world, which is rebellion. All too often, when a preacher preaches the plain and clear Word of God, some believers will walk away and dismiss those precious truths with: “Well, that is just his opinion.” They never bothered to ask if that is what the Bible teaches or not. In so doing, or with similar statements, they cannot know the “great peace” this verse promises.

People are restless today. They seek entertainment, activity, popularity, drugs, etc., because they are bored and have no peace within. The Christian that loves God and the Word of God can have it every day. From frequent reading of the Word they can understand that the world is not without God’s control – He is still in charge, and He still cares for His own! For those who face the “valley of the shadow of death,” they can find peace there, too.

Christian, the peace of God this verse promises can be yours today. Why not talk to God about it right now, surrender afresh to do His will, and you will discover that it can be yours, too?

Bible Promise for the Day

I Can Do All Things

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

One of the most well-known of God’s promises is the above Bible verse. It has been popularized by being printed on coffee mugs, pictures, and much more. Unfortunately, it is often misunderstood and misused.

Some believers think that this Bible verse means that if you claim it, that you will be the best of whatever you are seeking to be or do. A parent, for instance, may teach their child that he or she can be an expert ball player (or whatever) if they claim this verse.

The truth is that the verse does not mean that at all. What it does mean is that the child of God who is truly seeking to please God can do whatever God wants them to do. God never asks His children to do the impossible. Spiritual victory is possible for the asking.

This promise ought to give the child of God great confidence in knowing that God’s power is behind those who want to do His will and follow His leading. This does not mean it will be easy, or that no sacrifices will need to be made. It means His power is readily available to those who really want to obey and honor Him with their life and actions. He will help us every step of the way. Praise His Name.
